Catching The Train

I was waiting for Amanda after work the other day, and how do you think I entertained myself while I waited? Yeah, I took out the camera and started shooting. That guy was one of the only people that paid no attention to me or tried to move so they would be out of my picture. He was too busy racing around the corner and down the street to the train station!

15 Miles

This was the gorgeous view I got around mile 5 of my 15 mile walk.

Distant Viewing

My 18 miles (which was really 19.22 – holy cow!) today took me through Blue Hills Reservation with an unintentional detour to Wood Rd and Barnes and Noble, for those of you familiar with the area. The unintentional detour meant that I made it to the Chicatawbut Overlook right at lunch time (PB & banana sandwich). Despite the haze, it was nice to have a good view while I rested and ate…and of COURSE the camera came out! Bigger is way better, so click the photo to enlarge.

You can read about today’s walk here if you’re interested.

The rose is a flower of love

The Fallen Firefighters Memorial, which is just behind the State House, has a beautiful fountain with the Firefighters Prayer carved on it. This single white rose was sitting atop the fountain when I was there at lunch.

When I’m called to duty, wherever flames may rage
give me strength to save a life, whatever be its age

Help me to embrace a little child before it is too late
or save an older person from the horror of that fate

Enable me to be alert to hear the weakest shout
and quickly and efficiently to put the fire out

I want to fill my calling and to give the best in me
to guard my neighbor and protect his property

And if according to my destiny, I must the earth depart,
please bless with your protecting hand those closest to my heart

Flare

I like all the shiney, modern, reflecty buildings downtown. You’ve seen this building before here and here. Beautiful weather today – cool enough to not break a sweat walking around, but warm enough to not need more than a denim jacket (if a jacket at all).
