There must be some toros in the atmosphere

It’s gotten a wee bit chilly again, and the morning frost has returned to the storm window in our kitchen.

Bonus!

You get a second post today, because after I got home from my wander to admire Christmas decorations in Quincy Center, I got busy making an advent calendar for our house! It doesn’t look exactly like it did in my mind’s eye, but it’s pretty close…and it’s full of chocolate. I haven’t heard any complaints. ;)
Please forgive me for the color bizarre-ness in these photos – crappy crappy lighting in our living room, especially after the sun goes down. The top photo is probably the most color-realistic.
If you’re wondering what was on tv (below), it was Veronica Mars who kept me company while I made this. Well…really it was Logan Echolls, because I love him. Shhhh….don’t tell Pete! I am tearing through this show! They do such a great job of sneaking in one last little cliff hanger at the end of each episode that it’s causing a lot of late nights and unproductive days off. Each time I think “just one more episode” and then end up with the “MUST! KNOW! WHAT! HAPPENS! NEXT!” problem. It very Lost-esque like that. And also in the whole “long overarching story line which has lots of twists and turns” way, for that matter.
Moving on….above is a glimpse of the treats in our calendar – Hershey’s Minis, mini Toblerones, and Lindt peanut butter truffles. nomnomnom. When I told Pete I was going to do this, he told me that we didn’t need more treats in the house and it was ridiculous. But guess who is busting into the treats first these days?!?
If you want the (sketchy) details: I chopped the corners off of plain white envelopes to make the bunting-like triangles. I made the little squares on each of them using clip art I downloaded from the Microsoft site and then added the number for each day in PowerPoint. I cut out each square and then stuck them on an envelope corner using spray mount adhesive. And then I cut up some yarn I had in my stash, threaded a yarn needle, and poked two holes in the back of each triangle to string them up. A few clear pushpins to hang them on the wall, and there it is. I already know I won’t repeat this same thing next year, I have another idea I think I’ll like better. But hey…this is working, and I can recycle all of it when it’s time to take it down!

ETA: If you’re interested, there are a few more photos of our other Christmas decorations on Flickr…and if I get around to doing some more decorating, I’ll add to that set.

Gerbera

This is the last of the three Gerbera plants I got for my birthday. The light in our living room is pretty awesome in the middle of the afternoon….when it’s sunny, at least!

If cats could talk….

…they wouldn’t.

Delays….

We’ve been super busy packing, moving, and now unpacking, so I’ve barely touched my camera (although I did remember where I had packed it Tuesday, so at least I know where it is again!). Here are some very random updates on the move to tide you over for a bit. ;)

Anyone on Facebook already knows this, but while we were in the process of moving our furniture on Sunday, someone took our four BRIGHT orange kitchen chairs from the courtyard where we were loading the moving truck. I was really upset. It took me a few hours to get over it, and by the time we had turned in our keys I was calm enough (and sad enough) to leave a nice note by the door asking whoever had taken them to please call me and return them. After a full day went by and I hadn’t heard anything, I thought I was never going to see them again. And Ikea doesn’t sell them in orange anymore. Yesterday on Craigslist I found a single orange one, but didn’t think it was worth buying just the one. About an hour later I got a call from a number I didn’t recognize, and it was a guy that lives in our old building saying his buddy thought our chairs were trash and took them, and that now he has them and will meet me with them. Yay! One quick Zipcar trip after work and my orange chairs are back with me, where they belong!

It’s funny what you think is awesome when your fist move. Our list is probably still growing, but so far: the AHmazing water pressure in the shower, the timer on the oven, being able to buy beer & wine at the grocery store. There are also a few things that we didn’t expect to take adjusting to but have. Among them: grocery shopping (it takes twice as long to find everything because it’s a totally different store than our old one) and having to actually walk into a room or yell to be heard from a different part of the apartment. You would think this is common sense, but three years in an open loft was enough for us to forget that you can’t just speak in a normal voice and expect someone on the opposite side of an apartment with doors and walls to hear you!
We still have a good amount of unpacking and getting settled to do (which, for the record, is almost entirely my fault – Pete’s done most of the work so far), but so far so good! Even the cats have stopped hiding under the bed all day!

I’ll be back with pictures when we’re a bit more settled….
