Number 9: Workin’ On The List

Crane Library 1

I’m still chipping away at number nine on the list – reading the Best Minxes Ever Written on Penguin’s list of Best Books Ever Written. I read Lolita for my Kubrick class back in college and am counting it as read. A while back, I hit up Borders for a few books (you saw Emma here, Vanity Fair is currently getting beat up being carried in my purse daily).

Today, I hit up the Thomas Crane Library for Breakfast at Tiffanys. It’s almost embarrassing to admit this, but I haven’t been an active library user in so long that I had a bit of trouble getting the book. It took me longer than it should have to figure out how to put the book on hold online, in part because I had to call them (for the second time) to reset the PIN attached to my library card so I could log in. Once it was on hold, I knew where to go look for it and just had to wait for the email to tell me it was ready. The email came, time went by, and I didn’t get myself to the library until my hold had almost expired. The first time I tried to pick it up, the library was closed because I had forgotten to check their hours and just assumed they would be open. The second time I was all excited, but then couldn’t find my book. It turns out that when your hold has almost expired, they hold the book behind the counter for you. At least now I know how to use the library (kind of).

6.4.2011_Orange_Toes_WebAfter I got home and had lunch, I proceeded to go to one of the eleven nail salons within half a mile of our house to have my toes made pretty while I started reading. Of course I chose orange for my toes – how could I not?! And I also found out that the highest rated nail salon on Yelp is definitely not the best of the eleven nail salons within half a mile of our house. Lesson learned: try a different nail salon next time I want some reading/pedicure time.

Number 4: We Are New England

4.23.2011 Revolution 1

It turns out that almost all of our nights out lately have been unofficially sponsored by Groupon. What can I say? I’m a sucker for a good deal. I also love trying new things and going on “adventures”, so getting to do that on the cheap is even awesomer.

4.23.2011 Revolution 3Neither Pete or I follow MLS, nor had either of us been to a Revolution game. Or to Gillette Stadium. And now we’ve remedied that despite the chilly, raw weather. Groupon posted a deal for a ticket to a Revolution game and a free t-shirt for $18. That’s a pretty sweet deal! You had no control over what seats you got, but they don’t exactly sell out, so if our seats hadn’t been perfectly acceptable, we could easily have moved into seats that would have been great. We’re lazy, so we stayed in our perfectly acceptable seats. Also, we didn’t think to bring towels to dry off seats with, and our free t-shirts weren’t super absorbent. Switching seats would have lead to cold, wet butts!

The Revolution won, and we had a good time despite the mildly obnoxious teenagers that were sitting next to us. It was fun to listen to the chanting and singing from the folks seated in “The Fort”, and to ponder all kinds of very important soccer related things, like “what’s the deal with soccer and scarves?”and “do you think they have to take acting classes as part of their training?” Now that we’ve got answers to those questions, I think we’ll be much better prepared for any future professional soccer matches!

I’m blue da ba dee da ba di

I was getting changed to head home after the gym and realized I was dressed in four different shades of blue. I guess I’m really into teals and aquas right now!

As Seen In Glamour Magazine

Look! It’s me! In my awesome new winter coat! In the freezing cold! So this coat...I had a few requirements for a new coat: doesn’t look like a sleeping bag, has a hood, not black/grey/navy, at least knee-length. And warm. This one fits the bill, and I managed to get it on sale, which was also nice. There was a bit of a debacle getting UPS to deliver it, as it was meant to be redelivered the same day we had a blizzard. I guess for UPS, that means that it’s okay to take the next six days to claim “emergency weather conditions” and not redelivery.

Also, I love my new camera. I used to take self portraits (and force Pete into them) all the time pre-DSLR, but since the lens that is on my DSLR 95% of the time is the equivalent of a 75mm, it’s a bit hard to get a self portrait at arms length. And so now that I have this new point and shoot you can all look forward to seeing my mug more often. ;)

The Hamptons (daaaaaahling)

You guys! I’m making progress on my fall to do list! This here is evidence of number four. And an awesome weekend.

Four of us drove down together and thoroughly enjoyed our extended girls time – we usually manage a girls night each month, but 36 hours in a row? Now that’s a girls weekend! We got lucky and had gorgeous weather for our drive and ferry rides. With no major snafus we made it to Sag Harbor with plenty of time to pop into Bay Burger to surprise Joe and get a ridiculously delicious lunch. And because it was my first time there (and will absolutely not be my last!), we documented it. Can you tell I was excited? You guys?! I have a ridiculously high bar when it comes to burgers, and this burger? It cleared that bar easily. SO GOOD.

After lunch we headed over to the shower to cook and set up. The shower was at a property owned by Peconic Land Trust, and I was pretty impressed when we first pulled up in front of the house. But when I walked through the doors? Yeah, I thought I’d died and gone to my mid century modern heaven. If we could take that house and all it’s furnishings and artwork and move it to an urban setting? Yes, please! I’ll take it! But enough of my babbling – click here  to see a slideshow  of the house and Liza’s shower.
