10 On What Day?

I had intended to write you a 10 on Tuesday tonight, but we were out late (doing laundry, how exciting!) and so I’m too tired to think of 10 different things to talk about…please stay tuned for 10 on Wednesday tomorrow! ;)

Oh, and this picture? It’s the sudoku calendar Pete gave me for Christmas. He gave me one last year and I loved it – I did my page each day, and finished nearly all of them. But this one…it’s really hard and makes me feel stupid. Pete bought it because it’s the Will Shortz one, and he recognized Will Shortz’s (grammar police? Is that apostrophe right? Is that “s” right?) name from NPR’s Weekend Edition. While I secretly think he bought it with the intention of making me feel stupid, he claims he had no idea who Will Shortz really is (i.e. the maker of the hardest puzzles known to man) beyond him appearing on NPR. Don’t worry, if it ever happens that I managed to finish one of these sudokus this year, I’ll let you guys know.

A List: Things To Do This Winter

I had a bit better success with my fall list than I had with my summer list…I got a bit ambitious with some budget-hungry items. Two trips to New York and tickets to a show while leading into the holiday/gift giving season? Not so much! I also over-planned for things that needed doing in October, which was a busy month even without to do list items. Two of the unfinished items I’m not giving up on – I am going to carry over the Freedom Trail to my winter list, and seeing the Urban Nutcracker will go back on my list next fall.

In the end, I got five out of nine to dos checked off – not too bad!  Even better, I think I’ve learned some lessons on seasonal to do list planning – this time around I spent a bit more time comparing my list to a calendar and my budget. Hopefully I’m really setting myself up for success this time around.

Without further ado, here’s my Winter 2011 To Do List!

  1. Have a Hitchcock Movie Marathon  DONE! (but no pictures…)
  2. Go ice skating at the Frog Pond
  3. Try Phở (Possibly here?)
  4. Visit the new Americas Wing at the Museum of Fine Arts  DONE!
  5. Walk the entire Freedom Trail (carried over from my fall list)  DONE!
  6. Check out the Museum of Science Observatory  DONE!
  7. Cook in the crock pot at least once a week  DONE!
  8. See Mary Poppins at the Opera House
What’s on your Winter 2011 To Do List?? Let me know if you want to join me for anything on mine, I would love to have company while I work my way through it!

Chug Chug Chug

O  was very serious about chugging down her milk while she waited patiently for her dinner.

From A Jet Plane

There was a pretty amazing sunset when I was flying out of DC. Unfortunately I was sitting on the wrong side of the plane to enjoy it for most of the flight, but I was able to get this photo quickly before we finished turning North after take off. That may or may not have happened while were still supposed to have electronic devices turned off…but I don’t really consider my camera an electronic devise. Hopefully the TSA doesn’t, either.

Crochet, Crochet, Crochet!

I did not do a good job of getting photos of my finished crochet projects while I was on vacation! I
hadn’t taken a lot of photos before I gave Christmas gifts because I knew I couldn’t post them, and I intended to force my family into a mini crochet fashion show so I could get photos while I was in Virginia. I needed photos of the hat I sent Emily for her birthday last February, the hat I sent Mom in September, and the scarf I made Claire for Christmas (unfortunately the hat I made Ben didn’t fit him, so I need to start a new one). I got photos of not a single one of those things. Maybe Emily and Mom will read this, take photos, and send them to me so I can share them, too! ;)

In the meantime, here are a few photos of the scarf that I made for Pete’s mom. I wanted to make something that would match the hat I made her last year without being super matchy-matchy, and I think it worked. The purple yarn here is the same that I used for her hat, and the granny pattern is similar to a few rows of granny-esque stitches in the hat as well. Hopefully it’s keeping her toasty warm out in Wisconsin! If you’re on Ravelry, you can find the project details right here.

I still have some of the multi-colored yarn (seen right here) left. I love the colors, but I haven’t figured out what to do with it. It’s not enough for another entire scarf, but too much to just write off…suggestions welcome!

I’m also working on an blanket that is a belated Christmas gift for my newest niece, Adele. I don’t have a very good progress shot, but here’s a bit of a sneak peak. Sorry for the quality, the photo was taken with my phone…you’ll have to be patient and wait till I can get the entire thing finished for a better look! I’m not joking about the patience, it takes much longer to make 76 individual squares and put them all together than I thought it would! Next time: afghan pattern made continuously instead of with granny squares. The up-side is that when you’re making 76 of the same pattern square over and over again, each one looks a bit better than the last!
