10 on Tuesday

1. Some mornings I wake up, look at the weather forecast, and am instantly paralyzed by the cold. Today was one of those days. I’m tired of the cold.

2. At least it’s supposed to snow tonight – snow makes the cold worth it.

3. I’m not excited to have it rain after and ruin all the prettiness of the snow.

4. Work is….ugh. But I’d rather be ….ugh than ….unemployed.

5. I took this photo because it was a long day of staring at the computer screen with few breaks and my eyes have been killing me since about 11:00 AM.

6. All afternoon I’ve had Guess Who’s These Eyes stuck in my head.

7. This week for Biggest Loser, my unhealthy intake consists of Coke. Which is probably better than my usual unhealthy intake during Biggest Loser.

8. I have a Starbucks addiction (which I try to kick periodically, but my boss always convinces me not to: “It’s not like you’re addicted to crack!”), but when they finally started selling a 12 oz travel mug I officially downsized from a grande to a tall. Today, however, called for a grande.

9. Why am I not wearing my pajamas yet?

10. Champ is currently chasing her football across the house – I think she’s excited about the Superbowl this weekend!

10 on Tuesday

1. How do you get through today without discussing the inauguration? You don’t. How awesome! How awesome to watch the direction of a country change not because of violence and fighting, but because of the power it’s people used to VOTE for that change. How awesome to think that it’s time to reprint the history books, folks. HOW. FREAKING. AWESOME.

2. My senior year in college was the first presidential election I voted in, and I voted for Gore. Bush won. I remember talking to my parents about it after the fact, and Dad said to me “Sarah, it will be okay. We’ve been through it before, and it will be okay. ‘k?” He’s so smart, that Dad of mine! Thinking back, I wonder if our country needed that to happen to make today happen. Maybe it’s my hippy/karmic point of view, but I can’t imagine that if we’d had a democrat in office 8 years ago we would have our first black president in office today.

3. You know what you shouldn’t do the day before an event like the inauguration? Watch movies about conspiracies to shoot/kidnap the president. Pete and I watched Vantage Point yesterday, and the entire time I was watching the inauguration today I kept thinking “I hope he’s wearing a bulletproof vest under that suit of his”.

4. Last inauguration related one, promise – how dang cute are his daughters? And how much do we love Michelle’s outfit today? It’s going to be a fun four years watching his sweet daughters (loved seeing them taking pictures of his speech!), checking out his wife’s style, and listening to his speeches.

5. One of the perks of working for one of the largest philanthropic givers in the S&P500 is that I get free entrance at local museums. We’ve always gotten into the MFA, Aquarium, ICA, and Museum of Science. This quarter the list expanded to include the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. The Gardner owns my favorite painting, and I’m excited to be able to visit it any time I’d like.

6. Adding to the list of 2009 personal goals: visit a museum at least once a month. Starting this weekend! Anyone care to join me?

7. You know what is the perfect amount of snackiness? The fruit and cheese plate from Starbucks.

8. I’ve talked before about my totally awesome can’t-live-without-her massage therapist (go there, tell her I sent you). I had an appointment today and I loved it! In addition to the massagey awesomeness, they have heated pads on the tables and it’s so nice to lay on that toasty table and get a massage when it’s chilly outside.

9. I don’t usually crave sweets, but right now I could really go for a chocolate lava cake with vanilla ice cream. Probably because I’m watching Biggest Loser, and it’s kind of the law that you have to eat something unhealthy while you watch it.

10. Today’s photo is the sunrise this morning – it was beautiful. What an awesome way to start the day! I took the photo from the parking lot at the trolley stop, and I need to read up on taking sunrise photos as this was my first attempt. Someday when it’s not freezing I’ll drag my butt out of bed on a weekend and bring my tripod over to Milton Landing to get an awesome sunrise photo.

PS – new haircut!

10 On Tuesday

Sorry I’m a bit late in getting this up…more on that later…

Today’s picture is actually courtesy of Pete, who says “it was much funnier before I took the picture”, which is always the case with these two because it’s like they have a sixth sense that makes them stop being as cute/funny as soon as you reach for a camera.

1. It is cold and getting colder. I’ve been searching online for long underwear, but I think I need to head to the store and try it on before I buy. But it’s going to be so cold this weekend that I don’t want to leave the house…so maybe I’ll wait. Is that counterproductive? Should I go out and buy the long underwear so that I can leave the house this weekend without freezing?

2. I’ve been poking around the web looking to see what there is to do while we’re in NH on vacation. Unfortunately, dog sledding costs $245/couple for a 3 hour adventure. Perhaps not this year, but I’d really love to do it some day. Add that to the life list.

3. Pete and I went to the grocery store after work and I stocked up on quick and easy lunch options for days when I don’t have leftovers to bring to work with me. My goal is to bring lunch to work at least 4 days each week, and so far so good….although I had to buy Monday after I dropped my yummy leftovers all over the floor taking them out of the microwave because I’m and idiot!

4. I’m starting to think about training for the 3-Day, and there are two suggested training schedules – 24 weeks or 16 weeks. The difference between the two is that for the Boston walk the 24 weeks starts February 10th when it will still be freezing cold and the 16 weeks starts April 7th, when I will no longer want to cry when I think about being outdoors. Surprisingly, I’m still considering doing the 24 weeks.

5. Because I can do some of that walking at the gym, in the warm, watching trashy cable!

6. I have been working on improving my posture lately, and my back is a bit sore. That’s a good thing, because it means I’m using my muscles properly to sit/stand up straight. I kind of want the iPosture device, but not for $90. I’m very good at ignoring the “SIT UP STRAIGHT!!!” label stuck on my monitor at work, but I don’t think I could ignore a vibrating disc attached to the front of my shoulder.

7. I really really love Stash Tea’s Organic Merry Mint Green Tea. I was running low at work and completely out at home, so I ordered more and it was delivered today, woohoo!

8. I kept thinking that I had no plans this weekend and would be able to spend the whole weekend inside, cleaning and organizing the house (and/or napping and watching movies). Then I realized that I have book club on Sunday. I love book club and I’m excited for it, but for some reason the realization that I actually do have something to do and will need to leave the house really threw me off.

9. Pete got the first season of How I Met Your Mother on DVD for Christmas, and we’ve been working our way through it. It is hilarious. H-I-LARIOUS, people. Barney is so funny that sometimes I laugh in anticipation of what he’s going to say.

10. Dear MBTA: Please figure out how to send your T alert text messages once and only once on a consistent basis. Once you figure that out, we can work on sending them in a timely fashion, and then on making sure that you follow up (i.e. if you send a text stating there are delays due to a medical reason, be sure to send a follow up text when the train is back on schedule).

And now back to your regularly scheduled programming

Here we go…10 on Tuesday!

1. It’s a new year and, of course, everyone is thinking and talking about resolutions. I’ve got some goals for 2009 in my head (and even some on paper), but I really hate the word resolution.

2. My personal goals for 2009: floss daily, eat breakfast daily, exercise three days a week, bring lunch to work four days a week, cook one new recipe each month.

3. I’ve dubbed 2009 the Year of Green…money saving, healthier eating, replacing bad habits with good ones. I don’t know how I got it in my head that I needed a color to associate with this year and my goals, but green jumped to mind immediately. Green is a sign of new growth and fresh beginnings, all the veggies I should be eating, all the money I should be saving…it seemed appropriate.

4. Among the goals in my head: get back on track with regular blog posts (10 on Tuesday, Friday I’m in Love) and start a new one (Thankful Thursdays) to act as a gratitude journal.

5. When I say things like “gratitude journal” it makes me feel even more like a hippy than I usually do. Am I a hippy? I might be…the kind that wears shoes when out in public and takes showers regularly, at least.

6. Emails have been flying around this week about our upcoming vacation to NH, and it makes me hope this month flies by…helllloooo vacation, I cannot wait to see you again!

7. We discovered in the past week that we have weddings on two consecutive days in opposite sides of Wisconsin (Milwaukee, River Falls). I’m hoping we can pull off both with the 5ish hour drive in between. I think it would be fun to drive across WI and count the collapsing barns. It also happens that the Brewers are in town the few days before the Milwaukee wedding, and the Twins are in town the day after the River Falls wedding. I think I see two more ballparks being crossed off the list!

8. Now that it’s officially the end of the holiday season (hope you remembered to leave some wine out for Babaganoush Le Befana tonight!), I’m completely over winter. I don’t need cold unless it’s getting me into the holiday spirit. Or bringing me a beautiful snow storm. 6-8 inches would be perfect, thanks. Otherwise? I’ll take anything over 50 degrees, thanks.

9. I think my flip from “I love the holiday season!” to “I HATE THE COLD” is the reason I’ve been thinking so much about vacations (in February curled up in front of the fireplace, in July/August at baseball games and weddings) the past few days.

10. It is not possible for me to watch Biggest Loser without crying. Or eating something completely unhealthy.

Madeline Bovine

Ten on Tuesday….

1. This is Madeline Bovine, who was given to my by a former coworker when I left the my last company. She has 6 different outfits and lives on my desk at work. I usually keep her on my shelves where I’m the only one that gets to see her, but I recently moved her out near my Christmas tree because I think she’s fitting of the seasonal decor. She’s gotten a lot of compliments. If you would like a Madeline Bovine of your own, you’re going to have to eBay for her.

2. My Christmas tree has also garnered a lot of compliments at work.

3. I am not complaining about the warm weather, but I cannot handle going from 0 (with windchill) to 60 in the span of three days.

4. Speaking of 0 to 60 in three days, I’m all registered for the 2009 Breast Cancer 3-Day! This year I’m walking in Boston, and our team name is Babes for Boobs, and we’re recruiting members. If you’re even remotely thinking about it, email me and I’ll fill you in! If you’re not interested in walking/volunteering…don’t worry, I’ll hit you up for money soon.

5. Walking in the 3-Day last October was one of the most amazing things I’ve ever done. I think that everyone I know should get involved somehow – walking, crewing, or coming out to cheer the walkers on. I can’t really put it into other words…it was just absolutely amazing.

6. I’m sad that I can’t walk in DC again next year so that I could go through that with my sisters again.

7. My collection of holiday music is large enough to last me almost an entire work day.

8. Work has been a bit hectic recently as we all try to wrap up everything we need to wrap up for year end…and try to kick off everything we need to kick off for ’09. Thank God vacation is coming soon.

9. Thanks to Guitar Hero, I think that Pete’s left hand is going to turn into a claw, a la Friends (cut to 2:50 if you don’t know what I’m talking about).

10. Why is it only Tuesday?
